Q Do you feel the term world police, starting under the Roosevelt Corollary, is still an appropriate description of the United States? Why, or why not?
The notion of the world police was embedded in the idea of the Roosevelt Corollary which spelt out the role of the United States as an international police power in the Western Hemisphere. It was largely an amendment to the Monroe Doctrine which was more passive. By the turn of the 20th century, U.S. was quite confident and in fact willing to assume the role of the regional policeman. The Corollary elaborately spelled out that the U.S. would have the responsibility to ensure compliance to obligations accruing to international creditors by nations in the Western Hemisphere and would ensure that the rights of the country are not violated, for which it could use military force for reinforcing stability in the region.
